Meanwhile, plural vertical shift registers 11 for storage are connected in series to form a register train 10. In respect to P-N junctions 4 forming a photodetection part, two P-N junctions 4 correspond to one bit of the register 9. In the frame storage mode, the pulse applied to the corresponding register 9 is in high-level, electric charge stored in P-N junctions is transferred to the register 9. Since the register 9 stops at the time other than the frame transfer time and is driven in two-phases, a potential barrier to give a transfer direction exists, and valleys of potential are separated by every one bit or 1/2 bit independently of the applied voltage. Therefore, electric charge flowed to the register 9 stays near an intensive optical incident and is superposed to picture information of picture elements of the intensive optical incident when a gate 3 becomes high-level to prevent smear.
