Abstract

PURPOSE:To give no limitations to the size of a detection range and to reduce the influence of background light by receiving laser beam by the plural photodiode elements which are arranged in a grid shape, and comparing and operating the outputs thereof. CONSTITUTION:Laser beam is received with the plural photodiode elements which are disposed on a one plane in close contact in a grid shape, and the outputs among the adjacent four elements to which the laser beam is made incident are operated, whereby the light spot position in the four elements is determined. Then, the intersecting point positions of the above four pieces are added to the value thereof, whereby, the light spot position is determined. For example, laser beam is cast on a light spot detecting element 12 disposed with plural photodiode element 13 in a grid shape and the outputs of the respective elements 13 are successively processed with a multiplexer 14, a voltage converter 15, and an A/D converter 16 to detect the four diodes to which the laser beam is made incident. The outputs thereof are processed and operated, whereby the light spot position is detected.
