Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove mercury and the like efficiently, and to purify mercury-contg. waste liquid to a discharge standard by adding copper salt and iron component to said waste liquid, performing reduction treatment and neutralizing a liquid phase after solid-liquid separation, and recycling the copper and iron component separated from the solids.
CONSTITUTION: Copper salt is added to mercury-contg. waste liquid 1 to control its pH and further an iron component is added under stirring and intimate mixing to allow mercury and copper to reduce. This is subjected to solid-liquid separation and an alkali such as NaOH is added to the 1st filtrate 2 thereof and the liquid is filtered. The filtrate 3 thereof is neutralized and released. The 1st residues 10 filtered in the 2nd stage are dry distilled 11, and is fractionated to metallic mercury 12, metallic copper 13 and metallic iron 14, which are further magnetically fractionated. The fractionated metallic copper 13 is dissolved in an acid to copper salt which is recycled together with the metallic iron 14 to the 1st stage. The 2nd residues 4 filtered in the 3rd stage are dry distilled 7, and are fractionated to metallic mercury 6 and the 3rd residue 5 contg. Fe hydroxide, Cu hydroxide, and hydroxide of a slight amount of heavy metals, which are respectively recovered.
