Abstract

PURPOSE: To insolubilize heavy metals, particularly arsenic, by adding mineral acids of 1W2pH to incineration ashes contg. heavy metals, dissolving heavy metals, adding hydrosulfide to the soln. thereof to control pH to 7W8 and allowing the heavy metals to settle as sulfide.
CONSTITUTION: The incineration ashes produced by incineration of waste such as sludge are introduced from a hopper 1 through a line 11 into an acid extracting tower 2. Here, mineral acids such as hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and the like of 1W2pH introduced through a line 12 from a mineral acid tank 3 are added thereto to dissolve and extract heavy metals. The heavy metal extracting liquid and the incineration ashes are fed through a line 13 into a reaction vessel 4, where hydrosulfide such as sodium hydrosulfide is added from a chemicals tank 5 through a line 14, to control pH to 7W8 and to allow heavy metals to settle as sulfide. Thence, the mixed solns. are supplied to a dehydrator 6, where they are separated to the insolubilized incineration ashes and the dehydrated filtrate. The nontoxic incineration ashes are recovered into a hopper 8.
