Abstract

PURPOSE: To disuse the process to draw out a mandrel and simplify the connection between a core member and yoke members in a shaft member with yoke members of universal joints connected on both ends by burying the core member in the shaft member to replace a convertional mandrel.
CONSTITUTION: For manufacturing, a thin pipe made of light alloy material is cut to adapt to the length of a shaft part 5 of a propeller shaft 1 for forming a trunk plate part 8, which is provided with end plates 9 on its both ends for forming a hollow core member 2. Meanwhile, pressurized gas 11 is injected from an injection port 10 provided on an end plate 9 to keep the shape of the core member 2. Then, connecting part 13 of yoke members 3 are respectively fitted into staged end rims 12 of both end plates 9, and carbon fiber with epoxy resin applied is wound round peripheries of the connecting parts 13 and the core member 2 to shape and epoxy resin layer 4 for finishing the propeller shaft 1. This construction permits to simplify the process of manufacturing, since carbon fiber is directly wound round the core member 2 to shape a shaft part 5.
