Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a core of precision for an optical connector at low cost by inserting a prescribed insert into a metallic mold for the formation of the core and then by extracting the insert after forming the core by packing thermosetting resin. CONSTITUTION:Glass fiber 5 having 3mum thicker diameter than an optical fiber to be connected is covered with heat-shrinkable tube 6 made of ''Teflon '' to otain an insert for a core. This is inserted into metallic mold 7 in its center and thermosetting resin is injected into gap 8. After the resin sets, core 3 is taken out of metallic mold 7 and then the insert is extracted to obtain core 3. Thus, core 3 provided with holes 9 and 10 where optical fiber 1 and protective coating 2 are inserted can be obtained precisely at low cost.
