Abstract

PURPOSE:To drive three PIN diodes with the same current by composing parallel elements of quarter-wavelength lines of characteristic impedance Z0 terminated by the parallel connecting circuit of a resistance Z0 and a PIN diode. CONSTITUTION:As the series element of a pi-shaped constant-resistance variable attenuator, a PIN diode 34 is used, and two parallel elements are composed by terminating quarter-wavelength lines 32 and 33, having characteristic impedance equal to constant resistance impedance Z0, by the parallel connecting circuit of a resistance impedance Z0 equal to the constant-resistance impedance Z0 and PIN diodes 15 and 16. Then, a control voltage from a control circuit is applied between a plus-side DC voltage terminal 30 and a minus-side DC voltage terminal 31 to flow the same current to the PIN diodes 15, 16 and 34, thereby varying the extent of attenuation of signal input and output terminals 1 and 2.
