Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent any suppression of the lighting, as well as any decrease of the light-flux maintenance rate which might be caused during the life by restricting the relationship between the diameter of an electrode axis, and the discharge current during stable lighting to be in a given range, and thereby reducing the wave hight of the restrike voltage. CONSTITUTION:One of main electrodes 3a and 3b is prepared by coilig an electrode coil 10 made of a high-melting-point metal such as tungsten around an electrode axis 9 made of the same material as the coil 10 in one or plural layers. An emission tube 1 is charged with given amounts of mercury, a metal halide and a starting rare gas. The diameter (d) of the electrode axis 9, and a discharge current IL during stable lighting are restricted to satisfy the relationship, 3.0<=IL<1/2>/d<=6.1. Consequently, any suppression of the lighting can be prevented, the light-flux maintenance rate during the life can be maintained high, and a lamp of increased life can be obtained.
