Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent flickering in the neighbourhood of an electrode by sealing a rare gas of weighted mean atomic weight heavier than that of argon gas in a ring- shaped tube and making a diameter of coiled wire of a filament electrode specially sized. CONSTITUTION:A single or mixing rare gas having a weighted mean atomic weight heavier by 15% than that of argon gas is sealed in a tube of a ring-shaped fluorescent lamp at end parts of which coiled-coil dilament electrodes 2 and 3 are provided and the inner diameter and ring inner diameter of which are 23-29mm. and 139-392mm., respectively and Dw, a diameter of coiled wire of the coiled-coil filament electrode is selected by Dw<=0.097I+32 where I=lamp discharge current. Consequently Dw, a diameter of coiled wire which is greatly influential to the stability of electrode oscillation can be properly determined and irregular flickering generated in the neightbourhood of the electrodes can be prevented almost perfectly.
