Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the adhesion of an electron emitting material by employing gadolinium oxide and an oxide of rear earth metal as an electron emitting material for an electrode of discharge lamp. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 2a, 2b are arranged through molybdenum foils 3a, 3b to both ends of a light emitting tube 1 encapsulated with mercury, rear gas and metal halide. Electrodes 2a, 2b are constructed such that an inside coil 16 and outise coil 17 are wound around an electrode core wire 15 to form an electrode structure member then an electron emitting materials 18 are secured on the inside and outside coils 16, 17. The electron emitting material is composed by mixing an oxide of rear earth metal (cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, europium, etc.) with gadolinium oxide. Consequently the adhesion of the electron emitting material onto an electrode structure member is improved and the peeling can be prevented during the operation.
