Abstract

PURPOSE: To form bulges, patterns etc. simply on the surface of a tube by forcing molten metal into a tube to be worked held between upper and lower molds to which a pattern is engraved and expanding the molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: A pressure converter 9 and upper and lower molds 2, 3 are heated to softening temperature of the tube to be worked. The tube 1 is set to the upper and lower molds 2, 3 that form a bulge or pattern 4 in the inside and heated to softening temperature. Inside of the tube 1 is made airtight by actuating seal units 5, 5', and molten metal is forced into the tube 1 through a valve 7. When the valve is filled up, the valve 7 and an outlet valve 14 are closed, a piston 8 is retreated and molten metal is filled in the pressure converter 10. Next, high-pressure molten metal in the pressure converter 10 is sent into the tube 1 by actuating a hydraulic cylinder 11 to form a bulge or pattern 4 on the surface of the tube. When forming is completed, molten metal is discharged, and high-pressure inert gas is sent in from a valve 7' to discharge molten metal contained in the tube 1.
