EXAMPLE: 1α,2α-Epoxy-25-acetoxy-3,24-dioxocholesta-4,6-diene.
USE: An intermediate for preparing an active type vitamin D3. 1α,3β,24,25-Tetrahydroxycholesto-5-ene, an intermediate for preparing an active type VD3, is derived from a compound shown by the formula I.
PROCESS: A 25-hydroxy-3,24-dioxocholesta-1,4,6-triene shown by the formula II is reacted with H2O2 in the presence of a basic compound (g.g., NaOH) to give a compound shown by the formula I. The compund shown by the formula II is also a novel compound and is obtained by reacting a compound shown by the formula III with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyanobenzoquinone in an inert solvent.
