Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 1,2-epoxy derivative shown by the formula I (R is C4H9C≡C- or C4H9CH=CH-) shown by the formula I.
EXAMPLE: 1,2-Epoxy-12-heptadecyn.
USE: A synthetic intermediate for Z-11-hexadecenal, a sex pheromone of diamondback moth.
PROCESS: For example, 10-undecenoic acid shown by the formula 2 is reduced to give 10-undecen-1-ol shown by the formula 3, which is tosylated to give 1-tosyloxy- 10-undecen shown by the formula 4. This compound is reacted with a metallic bromide to give 1-bromo-10-undecen shown by the formula 5, which is reacted with a peroxide to give 1-bromo-10,11-epoxyundecen shown by the formula 6. Prepared compound is then reacted with 1-hexyne to give a compound wherein R in the compound shown by the formula 1 is C4H9C≡C-. The resulting compound is subjected to catalytic reduction to prepare a compound wherein R in the compound shown by the formula I is C4H9CH=CH-.
