Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a compound useful as a releasing agent, etc. in high yield selectively, by introducing a ≥8C long-chain fatty acid, a lower amine and NH3 into a specific reaction column continuously, reacting the substances by the gas- liquid countercurrent method under specified conditions, and separating the unreacted substances to the outside of the system.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid ≥8C long-chain fatty cid is continuously introduced from the top of a reaction column containing a solid dehydrating catalyst packed as a fixed bed catalyst, and a lower amine of the formula (R1 is H or methyl) and NH3 at a molar ratio of 1:1W8:1 based on the fatty acid in the gaseous form are introduced continuously from the bottom of the column thereinto. In the process, the reaction is carried out at a temperature of 150W230°C, preferably 160W200°C, and a pressure of 15 atm (gauge pressure) under the gas-liquid countercurrent conditions in the reaction column. The formed water is then separated with the unreacted NH3, etc. continuously to the outside of the system to give the aimed fatty acid amide from the bottom of the reaction column. Thus, the fatty acid amide with low contents of by-products and the unreacted fatty acid is obtained. The method is advantageous due to the small amount of NH3, etc. used for the reaction.
