Abstract

PURPOSE: To synthesize urea in high conversion without increasing the volume of the reaction tube, by dispersing CO2 gas, NH3 gas, etc. in liquid as fine bubbles, mixing the dispersion in a gas-liquid mixer, and reacting at the temperature and pressure of the urea synthesis.
CONSTITUTION: A gas-liquid mixture of CO2, NH3 and unreacted and recovered CO2 and NH3 (the weight ratio of liquid/gas is at least 2.5, pref. 2.6W14.0) is passed through an inline static mixer 7 (made of corrosion proof material such as zircon), and reacted in a urea-synthesis reactor tube 1 under the temperature and pressure of urea systhesis to obtain urea. The gas is dispersed in the liquid phase as fine bubbles before introduced into the urea synthesis zone. The gas-liquid mixer is pref. placed outside of the urea synthesis tube and near the inlet thereof. The same synthesis yield can be attained under the same conditions with smaller urea synthesis tube by the present process, and the initial cost of the plant can be reduced.
