Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the liquid leakage resistance of an alkaline battery by providing a space between the negative can and the gasket, and filling the former space with a mixture containing a given resin. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 4 principally consisting of silver peroxide, a separator 4, and an electrolyte holding material 3 are placed in a positive can 6 also serving as a positive lead. A negative mixture 2 made of gel-like amalgamated zinc is packed into a negative can 1 also serving as a negative lead, and this is placed over the material 3. At the same time, a gasket 7 is interposed between the cans 1 and 6 to hermetically seal the battery, and the whole constitutes an alkaline battery. The space formed between the gasket 7 and the periphery of the can 1, is filled with a mixture 8 consisting of asphalt and an epoxy resin. The mixture 8 is prepared, for example, by mixing the equal volumes of a mixture consisting of an epoxy resin used as a main component, a hardener such as denaturated amine, and thinner in a ratio by volume of 1:3:10, and a mixture consisting of blown asphalt, polybutene and thinner in a ratio by volume of 2:1:8.
