CONSTITUTION:The plate of a lead acid battery is made of an active material which contains 1-5wt% of fine substances such as silica grains having a large specific surface area. The grain size of the silica is preferred to be 5mmu-60mmu. The plate with this constitution can absorb and hold almost all of the required amount of electrolyte, and the volume of electrolyte which is contained in a separator, a container space and the like can be reduced. Consequently, the liquid leakage can be reduced, and the volume efficiency of the battery can be enhanced.
