Abstract

PURPOSE:To keep overvoltage of dc output from occurring, by turning off switching elements of a pulse-width modulation converter, which converts ac power voltage into dc, when its dc output voltage is higher than a designated value. CONSTITUTION:A comparator 18 compares output signals of an arithmetic circuit 16 and an oscillator 17. A signal is obtained after pulse-width is modulated in correspondence with each variation. When dc voltage is higher than a designated value, an overvoltage detector 20 will produce a signal. Then a gate amplifier 19 supplies a gate signal for turning off so that a gate turn-off thyristor GTO of a converter 7 switches all off corresponding thereto. As a result, the converter 7 is equivalent to a diode rectifier. A capacitor 8 is thereafter prevented from over-charging. Namely, overvoltage is prevented. In addition, the overvoltage detector 20 keeps an output signal with an FF circuit, the converter 7 opens an ac input breaker for a while, and then final protection is performed.
