Abstract

PURPOSE:To economically mass-produce stable and uniform rollers of high quality by pouring an outside layer material in the mold spaces of prescribed depth provided in plural pieces in the inside axial direction of metal molds for centrifugal casting, and pouring an inside layer material upon completion or upon near completion of its solidification. CONSTITUTION:A composite discoid roller 30 for levelers of shape steels such as H beams consist of an abrasion resistant outer layer material 14 and a tough inside layer material 15. Sand mold bands 19, 20 are provided at both ends in the axial direction of metal molds 17 for centrifugal casting, and ringlike chillers 18 for quick cooling of outside surfaces and doughnutlike sand molds 21 are provided in the inside alternately in plurality according to roller thicknesses and the axial lengths of the molds 17. Next, the leading end of a pouring spout 24 is inserted into the space delineated at the foremost end on the socket side of the molds 17 to cast molten outside layer material 22 to prescribed depth in the respective independent mold spaces by the rotation of the molds 17 and the movement to the space delineated in the last end on the insersion side of the molds 17. Upon perfection or approximate perfection of the solidification thereof, molten inside layer material 23 is poured by the spout 24 into the common space, so that it is fused in one piece with the outer layer material. The resultant blank material 29 is cut to 29a and is machined, whereby products 30 are obtained.
