Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the discharge performance of an organic electrolyte battery at low temperature and heavy load, by using round granules made of manganese dioxide and having a mean diameter of in a given range as a positive mixture for the battery. CONSTITUTION:A stainless net 22 is welded to the inner wall of a negative can 21 by spot welding, and a disclike lithium 23 used as a negative electrode is pressed and fixed to the net 22. A separator 24 is placed on the negative electrode 23, and a positive electrode 25 prepared by pressing and molding a stainless net 26 and a granular positive mixture into a unified body is placed on the separator 24 in such a manner that the net 26 is located apart from the separator 24. After that, a positive can 27 is placed over the negative can 21, to which an annular gasket is fixed, to hermetically seal the battery, and the whole constitutes an organic electrolyte battery. The positive electrode 25 is prepared by granulating a positive mixture, which is prepared by adding both flake graphite and polytetrafluoroethylene to manganese dioxide used as an active material, before the granulated mixture is formed into round granules.
