Abstract

PURPOSE:To continuously measure the surface roughness of a moving object noncontactually by projecting beam light to the surface of the moving object to be measured, passing the detected output of the reflected light through a band pass filter under sensitivity adjustment then displaying the average value thereof. CONSTITUTION:The beam from a laser 2 is condensed by a lens 3 onto a steel plate ST conveyed on a roller table 6, to <=2mm. beam diameter. The reflected beam is detected with an optical converter, the output thereof is introduced to a sensitivity control circuit 11. The moving position of the steel plate ST is detected with a pulse generator 5, and the output pulses are applied to a counter 17. In the circuit 11, the correction for the fluctuation in macroreflectivity is applied, and only the signal of the frequency band corresponding to the moving speed of the steel plate ST calculated in a speed detecting circuit 18 by the integrated value of the counter 17 is taken out by a band pass filter 12. The average value of roughness is displayed 16 via a roughness detecting circuit 13, an A/D converter 14, and an averaging circuit 15. Thus, the surface roughness of a moving object is continuously measured without contacting.
