Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform position detection with high precision by detecting optically the position of a moving body, moving in proportion to a process variable, to using optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:Optical fiber 14 havin projetor 19 and projection window 15 and optical fiber 17 having photodetection window 18, photodetector 20 and measuring circuit 21 are provided. At the external periphery of a measuring instrument, scale mirrors M1, M2... and indication piece 11 made of a nonreflective material rotating along the external periphery are provided. Further, reflective mirror M0 is fitted to body 12 rotating at a prescribed speed. In this constitution, scanning scale mirrors M1... with light from projector 19 outputs a pulse signal to photodetector 20 when the reflected light is in direction Z, so that measuring circuit will start count operation. Then, the light is not reflected at indication piece 11 and the count operation of circuit 21 stops. The count value up to this point in time indicates the distance of rotation of indication piece 11.
