Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform one side welding of high mechanical strength by welding the V-groove formed by bending at least one edge and abutting the end face of the other base metal thereon from opening side, in welding two pieces of base metals constituting a tank.
CONSTITUTION: In welding base metals 1, 1a at the time of building a tank, the edge part of one base metal 1 is bent at a radius R of curvature and a bend allowance l, thereby forming a bent edge 9. Similarly, the edge part of the other base metal 1a is bent at a radius Ra of curvature and a bend allowance la to form a bent edge 10. The end face of the bent edge 9 is abutted on the side face thereof and a V-groove 11 is formed by both bent edges. The V-groove 11 is welded by weld metal 2 from its opening side. In this case, it is equally well to form a bent edge only one of the base metals 1, 1a, to butt the end face of the other bse metal thereto and to weld these. The throat depth of the weld zone is made more than the thickness of the base metals by the combinations of the angle A of bevel of the V-groove, and the above-mentioned radii R, Ra of curvature and bend allowances l, la, and the welded joint of high mechanical strength is obtained.
