Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture the joint of dissimilar metals, durable against the severe working condition, by explosively jointing two metallic sheets on both sides of the metallic sheet provided with a tapered zone on one edge, at a length longer than the tapered zone.
CONSTITUTION: The edge 6 of the parent metal 3 on the side to be jointed to the clad materials 2, 2, is formed into a wedge type section, and the clad materials 2, 2, are placed on both sides leaving a gap. The opposite faces of the parent metal 3 and clad materials 2, 2, are previously respectively ground. The explosives case 8 is placed closely to the clad materials 2, 2, and the explosives 9 is initiated using the electric detonater 10. Hereby, the clad materials 2, 2, fly toward the parent metal 3, and collide with the parent metal 3 from the initiated side, and are jointed; after the collision passes over the edge 6, clad materials 2, 2, mutually collide and are jointed. According to this method, the jointed portion is endowed with the great mechanical strength, so as to be hardly separated by the bending stress. By applying this method, the metallic pipe and the metallic rod provided with a tapered zone on one end can be explosively jointed, for obtaining the joint of dissimilar metals.
