Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain simultaneously the titled compounds useful as intermediates for synthesizing isocyanates, etc., by reacting an aromatic nitro compound with a hydroxyl group-containing organic compound and CO in the presence of a specific catalyst containing a bicyclic amidine.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of a catalyst consisting of metal Pd or Pd compound, iron compound, bicyclic amidine and halogen compound, an aromatic nitro compound is reacted with a hydroxyl group-containing organic compound and CO, to give an aromatic urethane and a carbonic ester simultaneously. A compound shown by the formula (R1 and R2 are optionally substituted alkylene), etc. may be cited as the bicyclic amidine. The reaction temperature is preferably 140W200°C. A catalyst component is separated from the solution of the reaction product, and it is cooled, so that urethane is separated, and a carbonic acid ester is separated from the mother liquor. It is safe because toxic phosgene is not used as a raw material.
