Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for synthetic resins, synthetic fibers, coating materials, adhesives, etc. and a synthetic intermediate for medicines and agricultural chemicals, etc., by the phosgenation of an aliphatic amine hydrochloride.
CONSTITUTION: An aliphatic amine hydrochloride is reacted with phosgene in an inert organic solvent, e.g. o-dichlorobenzene, under normal or higher pressure while removing hydrogen chloride gas outside the system at 100W160°C to give an isocyanate. An inert gas is then passed through the resultant isocyanate, and degassing is carried out at the same temperatue to give the titled compound. A primary lower alkylamine hydrochloride reacts with phosgene at a relatively low temperature at a high reaction rate.
