Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the exfoliation of a photosensitive layer from an Al or Al alloy substrate, to obtain satisfactory electrophotographic characteristics and to facilitate the regeneration of the layer by finishing the surface of the substrate to be coated with the photosensitive layer to specified roughness and oxidizing it in air at a specified temp. CONSTITUTION:When a photosensitive layer is formed on the surface of an Al or Al alloy substrate, the substrate surface is finished to 0.5-2.0mum roughness by grinding and washed with trichloroethylene. It is then heated in air at 100-300 deg.C to form an oxide film, and the photosensitive layer is formed by vapor-depositing an Se-Te alloy or the like. Oxidation at <100 deg.C is insufficient to form the oxide film. When the temp. exceeds 300 deg.C, the adhesion of the photosensitive layer is deteriorated. Thus, the adhesion of the substrate to the layer is enhanced to prevent the exfoliation of the layer, and the layer has superior charge retentivity and is easily removed when regenerated.
