Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the symmetrical performance as well as the S/N with a light weight for a pickup, by using wollastone prism to an optical pickup device. CONSTITUTION:The light of a laser diode 8 is turned into parallel beams through a lens 7 and then condensed onto a recording carrier 2 by a lens 3 and through a wollastone prism 11 and a 1/4 wavelength plate 4. The reflected light goes back and turned in the prism 11 to be condensed to a photodetector 9 provided at a different place from the diode 8 via the lens 7. In such way, the symmetrical performance of a pickup can be enhanced with a reduced weight and an improved S/N.
