CONSTITUTION:The linearly polarized light emitted from a semiconductor laser 1 is refleced by a polarizing beam splitter 4, and is made into circularly polarized light by passing through a 1/4 wavelength plate 51. This light is reflected by a reflecting mirror 11 which is slightly inclined with respect to the optical path and transmits through the plate 51 then through the splitter 4. The transmitted light is reflected by the splitter 4 through a 1/4 wavelength plate 52, a grating 12, and the plate 52, and is condensed at a disc surface 21 by a 1/4 wavelength plate 52, a grating 12, and the plate 52, and is condensed at a disc surface 21 by a 1/4 wavelength plate 53 and a condenser lens 6. The reflected light thereof goes backward and is condensed at a photodetector 9 located in the position slightly differing from the laser 1 by a collimating lens 2.
