Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a rolled bar steel having both high strength and high toughness by a method in which a steel containing regulated proportions of C, Si, Mn, V, solAl, N, etc., is conditioned into a finer structure and then subjected to a properly controlled rolling treatment. CONSTITUTION:A steel, containing 0.30-0.6% C, 1.8% or less Si, 0.60-0.20% Mn, 0.03-0.20% V, 0.020-0.060% sol. Al, 0.008-0.020% N, and Fe, together with 0.50% or less Cr as needed, is rolled under conditions of 800-1,050 deg.C and a draft of 30% or more (between 800 deg.C and 950 deg.C). Thus, a nontempered high- strength rolled bar steel having a structure consisting of proeutectoid ferrite and perlite colony of a fine grain size (more than JIS No.8 sieve),a tensile strength of 70kg/mm.<2> or more, and a yield point of 50kg/mm.<2> or more can be obtained only by rolling treatment.
