Abstract

PURPOSE: To generate stable and dense sparks, by incorporating a rectifying device in one of upper and lower electrodes of a fixed electrode between each pair of movable and fixed electrodes which hold a pair of materials to be welded.
CONSTITUTION: A full-wave rectifying device 12 is connected to the secondary terminal side of a three-phase welding transformer 11 to be used for a welding apparatus, and a DC power is supplied to materials 1a, 1b to be welded. These materials are supported by upper and lower fixing electrodes 14 and 13 and movable electrodes 7b and 7a. In this case, the elctrode 14 having the built-in device 12 is lifted or lowered together with the device 11 by a cylinder 10 on a fixing table 2 against the electrode fixed to the main body 14 of the welding apparatus. In a closed circuit containing the device 11, a flexible conductor 5, the materials 1a and 1b, and each electrode, because of the built-in device 12 the inductance containing the secondary closed circuit is reduced, the rise of electric current is steep, and highly dense sparks are generated between the materials to be welded. Moreover, because of the abovemetioned DC power, continuous and stable sparks are obtained.
