Abstract

PURPOSE: To make joining possible without any load from the outside without being affected by the shape and roughness of fayed surfaces by heating a joint to specific temps. by the use of a sheet-like insert material consisting of carbon powder and a binder.
CONSTITUTION: When an insert material consisting of mixing carbon powder, a binder prepd. by dissolving an acrylic resin in a solvent, and ≥1 kinds of a deoxidizer and a surfactant and molding the mixture into a sheet form is placed between joining materials 1 and 2 of steel, and the entire part of the joint is heated to ≥1,200°C above the eutectic temp., the joining materials do not melt but the eutectic steel formed at the fayed interface melt. Thereafeter, carbon atoms diffuse from the molten layer to the joining materials, and the carbon quantity in the molten layer decreases. Then, the solid-liquid interfaces moves toward the molten layer, and isothermal solidification takes place in the molten layer, thus the joint part assumes the same composition as that of the joining materials, and this completes joining.
