Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a prescribed shape on the way of producing an amorphous metallic tape, and simplify process and improve productivity by coating a material of which the thermal conductivity is lower than that of a cooling body material on part of the surface of a cooling body.
CONSTITUTION: A low heat conductive material 7 of the heat conductivity sufficiently lower than that of a roll material is coated on part of the surface of the roll at right angle to the revolving direction of the roll, and the molten metal heated to melt by a melting and heating device 2 is ejected by gaseous pressure through a nozzle 4. The ejected molten metal is cooled extra quickly on the surface of a roll 5, but the rate of cooling is slower on the material 7 of sufficiently low heat conductivity than on the roll 5. Namely, if the rate of cooling is slower than the rate of cooling necessary for amorphous a substance it forms crystalline, and becomes weak and brittle in strength as compared to the amorphous part and this causes a tape 8 to be easily bent by the centrifugal forces parting from the surface of the roll 5, whereby the amorphous metallic tape 8 of a constant size is continuosly obtained.
