Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a stable, clear-cut recording as well as color image recording for a long period of time by using a system in which the whole of a polygonal columnar ink bars group is supported rotatably in such a way that the ink bars facing a thermal head can be switched. CONSTITUTION:Each time a ratchet 23 is operated and an angular material 8 is turned 90 deg., ink bars facing a thermal head 4 are switched. When the angular material 8 is heated by a preheater 10, ink bars 7a, 7b, 7c, and 7d are warmed up to a desired temperature, and then driven inside the spacing of the thermal head 4. Whereupon, the heat of the thermal head 4 is transmitted through a recording paper 24 to the ink bar 7a facing the head 4, and thereby the heat- sensitive ink on the surface of the ink bar 7a is partly melted and transferred onto the printing side 24a of the recording paper 24. The ink bars 7a-7d can be impregnated with the same color of heat-sensitive inks or can record a multi- colored image by being impregnated with different colors of heat-sensitive inks.
