Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive multicolor printer with a simple structure by facing an ink bar which contains heat sensitive inks of a plurality of different colors and a thermal head having heating electrodes corresponding to the respective bars via a recording sheet. CONSTITUTION:Rectangular ink bars 7, 8, 9 which are respectively impregnated with heat sensitive inks are preheated by a preheater 11 via a metallic supporting plate 10. When a takeup drum 16 is, on the other hand, driven to move a head 16 on a carriage 3 and a voltage is selectively applied to the elements of the heating electrodes 21, 22, 23 of a head 6, the heat sensitive inks of the bars 7, 8, 9 melt, and are transferred in dotted state on a recording sheet 12. Then, the sheet 12 is isolated from the bars 7, 8, 9 by a separator 17 which moves together with the head 16 at the prescribed distance from the head 6. The sheet 6 is fed by P/2 at the time of returning the head 6, and the dots of different colors are superposed, thereby obtaining a color picture.
