Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the fouling of a printing paper by moving the ink ribbon at the moving speed equal to that of the thermal head and the carriage in the opposite direction while the ink ribbon is separated from the printing paper in the return of the carriage. CONSTITUTION:In a heat transfer printer comprising a carriage 10, a thermal head 15, a heat transfer ink ribbon cassette 27, a platen 28 and the like, an ink ribbon 38 is moved at the moving speed equal to that of the thermal head 15 and the carriage 10 in the opposite direction. This eliminates relative speed between the ink ribbon 38 and the printing paper 30 synchronizing the movement of the carriage 10 in printing thereby preventing the fouling of the paper 30 due to the ink. In the return of the carriage, the ink ribbon 38 is separated from the printing paper 30.
