Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce heat treatable die castings of high density by charging molten metal into a sleeve then removing the air from the inside of cavities and packing the molten metal into the cavities at a low gate passing speed.
CONSTITUTION: First, a molten Al alloy is charged through a charging port 8 into a sleeve 5 of a cold chamber type die casting machine, then a shutting cover 9 is closed to shut off the communication between the through-hole 7 of the sleeve 5 and the atmospheric air. A plunger 6 is advanced into the hole 7; at the same time, the air in cavities 3 is removed forcibly preferably after the passage of the plunger 6 through the port 8 and just prior to packing of the molten metal into the cavities 3. At this time, the plunger 6 is advanced to pack the molten metal into the cavities 3 at 0.02W0.8m/sec passage speeds in a gate 4.
