CONSTITUTION:A molten iron 17 is agitated by blowing liquid CO2 from a lance 1 immersed into the molten iron 17 in a reaction vessel 16. At this time, the liquid CO2 is blown off from blowing ports 3, 4 and 5 provided to the tip of the lance 1 and from ports 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 provided to the side wall of said lance to agitate the molten iron 17 powerfully so as to perform decarbonization in a short time. Further, at the same time, the useful life of the lance 1 is prolonged by cooling effect due to the phase change of liquid CO2 to the gas phase.
