Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the stable production of compacted vermicular cast iron of less variance in properties by subjecting molten iron to a graphite spheroidization treatment then blowing a specific gas thereto.
CONSTITUTION: After a graphite spheroidizing agent contg. Mg is added to molten iron, it is inoculated with Fe-Si or the like to spheroidal graphite structure. Then, gas such as CH4, C2H2 or Ar is blown thereto through a quartz pipe, after which the molten iron is cast into a mold. The compacted vermicular cast iron casting which has nodular graphite structure, suitable strength, ductility, superior castability and heat conductivity is obtained.
