Abstract
PURPOSE: To check the deterioration in the toughness by preventing change of the spherical graphite into fragments due to fading through inoculation of the whole or part of the melted ductile cast which has undergone a spherodizing of the graphite at the spruce of the mold.
CONSTITUTION: Ductile cast having the graphite made pherical is put into a roll mold 1 composed of a sand mold and a metal mold for casting by a top casting or a bottom casting. Here, a part of inoculation to be performed after the spherodizing of graphite is conducted in the laddle while the remainder at the spruce section 4. Otherwise, the whole inoculation is conducted at the spruce section 4. In this method, a Si affiliated inoculant such as Fe-Si and Zr-Si agents ranging from 4 to 48 mesh can be used. This agent is added to the melted material at the spruce at a rate of 0.1 to 1.0% by weight in terms of pure Si component contained in the melted material at a rate of 0.2 to 2.0 kg/sec. As shorter time is required up to the solidification in the fold from the inoculation, no fading takes place. Therefore, a roll excellent in the toughness can be produced having the spherical graphite penetrating into the substantial depth.
