Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a strength lowering of spheroidal graphite cast iron with a service temp. rise by adding a specific amt. of Ni to provide high strength as cast.
CONSTITUTION: 6W12% electrolytic Ni is added to molten cast iron contg. C; 1.7W 3.8%, Si; 0.8W3.0% and Mn; 0.3W2.0%. The iron is then treated with a Mg type graphite spheroidizing agent to spheroidize graphite in the iron structure. It is immediately inoculated with Fe-Si powder and cast in an ingot case. A casting of the resulting spheroidal graphite cast iron has such a high strength as above 100 kg/mm2 at 300°C as cast without requiring any special heat treatment, and the strength is remarkably increased with a temp. rise to 300°C.
