PURPOSE:To automatically measure shape sizes of the work under processing in such a way that processing is stopped transitorily on the way of wire cut electric discharge processing, and by means of moving either wire or work, moving rate until the both are brought into contact with each other is measured. CONSTITUTION:During wire cut electric discharge porocessing, an electrode 10 and a eowk 12 are put in non-contact condition. When processing shape sizes of the work 12 are measured, processing is transitorily stopped, X, Y tables 22a, 22b are moved through a controller 24 by means of driving motors 20a, 20b, and the electrode 10 and the work 12 are brought into contact with each other. Then, a comparator 44 feeds output voltage H to a controller 24, and the controller 24 measures processing shape sizes of the work out of the moving rate of the X, Y tables from the actual processing course to the contact point.
