Abstract

PURPOSE:To determine a correct offset by a method wherein a wire electrode having been retracted by a predetermined distance from a run-off machining stop position is moved in the direction normal to the machining direction, and the discharge gap is measured based on the contact between the electrode and the work. CONSTITUTION:A wire electrode 12 retracts by a predetermined distance l along a machined groove as shown in Fig. C and comes apart from a run-off cutting stop position as shown in Fig. B. From the position shown in Fig. C, the wire electrode 12 then moves in the direction normal to the machining direction until it contacts with work 10, and the discharge gap is measured. Then the center of the electrode 12 reciprocates as indicated by the arrow Z. By measuring the moving amount delta of the center, the magnitude of the discharge gap C can be determined from delta/2, and the offset of the electrode 12 can be determined from the discharge gap G and the diameter of the electrode 12.
