Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of the titled apparatus and to improve its sealing performance, by forming an air injection port at the top of an adapter and a plurality of air intake holes in the side face of said adapter, and thereby constituting the adapter and a fuel injection valve in a unitary manner. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical adapter 36 is fitted on a main body 31, and it is coupled with a fuel injection valve 26 in a unitary manner by caulking a flange part 36a of the adapter 36 and a flange part 28a of a housing 28 to each other. With such an arrangement, air supplied from an assist-air supply passage 30 is carried into a hollow space 52 from a bore 40c and then into an air-flow space 37 from assist-air intake holes 54 formed in the adapter 36. When the air thus introduced into the space 37 passes through an air injection port 36b, the speed of air flow is increased by the restriction of the port 36b, so that atomization of fuel supplied from a fuel port 31a is promoted. By thus forming the air intake holes 54 in the vicinity of the air injection port 36b and shaping the lower end part 31' of the adapter in a tapered form, it is enabled to obtain a smooth air flow.
