Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a toner of good pressure fixability that s fixed by a low pressure by making the average grain sizes of roughly spherical toner particle groups smaller than the average grain sizes of shapeless toner particle groups. CONSTITUTION:For example, 80pts.wt. polyethylene having of 70cps melt viscosity at 140 deg.C, 20pts.wt. 155 deg.F paraffin, 60pts.wt. magnetic powder, 2pts.wt. metallic complex salt dye and 7pts.wt. hydrophobic colloidal silica are mixed by using a ball mill, and the mixture is melted and kneaded in a roll mill. After cooling, the mixture is roughly crushed with a hammer mill, after which the granules are finely ground with a jet mill and are further classified, whereby a powder toner A1 of powder groups having 9.8mu number average grain sizes and 17.5mu is obtained. The powder groups of 9.8mu are heated by using a spray drying machine, whereby roughly spherical powder (toner B1) having 10.2mu average grain sizes is obtained. The developer of good pressure fixability is obtained by mixing 40pts.wt. toner A1, 60pts.wt. toner B1 and 0.6pt.wt. hydrophobic colloidal silica.
