The photodetector 2A is so disposed that the quantity of the light arriving at said photodetector is controlled by the displacement of the plate 3, and the position of the object to be detected is detected by the output of said photodetector 2A. On the other hand, the photodetector 2B is disposed in the position where the output thereof is not changed by the displacement of the plate 3 and the quantity of the light emitted by the element 1 is so controlled by the output thereof that it is kept constant at all times.
