Abstract

PURPOSE:To make sail's furling, unfurling and turning operations still easier and readier, by providing a marine canvas with plural ribs capable of going up on a mast by winch and going down by each dead weight, thereby turning the canvas through cylinders installed on top and bottom of a vertical rod parallel with the mast. CONSTITUTION:The canvas furling and unfurling system is made of a mast 2 secured vertically to a deck 1, a vertical rod 7 set via cylinders, 3 and 3, in parallel with the mast 2 and an elastic canvas 4. This canvas 4 consists of plural moving ribs 5, a fixed rib at the lowest step and a canvas 8, and the movable rib 5 is installed to be free in its vertical, turning motion with the mast 2. The fixed rib 6 is for only turning. Both ends of cylinders 3 and 3 are set on bearings between the upper and lower ends of the vertical rod 7 and the mast 2, turning the canvas 4 about 60 deg. centering on the mast 2 by operation of cylinders 3 and 3. On the top of the movable rib 5, a wire rope 10 is fixed in position and wound up by a winch 12 installed inside the mast via blocks 11.
