Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce resistance during the navigation of the ship by a method where in a recess is provided for containing a fender at the side of ship and the fender is contained in the recess.
CONSTITUTION: The fender 6 is placed at the broadside of ship so as to be capable of moving upward and downward freely and is suspended by wire ropes 8, which are sound up and payed out by a winch 10 though davits 9 fixed to an upper hull. The recess 11 is formed at the broadside of the upper hull 2 between the davits 9. The fender 6 can be contained in the recess 11 or maintained in a noncontained condition by only winding up on pay off the wire rope 8 by operating the winch 10.
