Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain large-sized cathedral glass having an arbitrary surface figure in relief by melting or softening plate glass put on a sand mold having a carved arbitrary figure.
CONSTITUTION: A figure is carved in a sand mold 4 having sufficient wetness. After drying the mold 4, plate glass G is put on the mold 4, introduced into a heating furnace 6, and heated. The resulting figured glass melted on the mold 4 is taken out of the furnace 6, and after mounting a heat insulating material, the glass is slowly cooled. Thus, large-sized cathedral glass having a surface figure corresponding to the figure carved in the mold 4 is obtd.
