Abstract

PURPOSE: To form glass sheet into a desired bent shape by the procedure in which a heater wire is placed at a given interval away from glass along a desired bending line and then the heater wire is electrically energized to a specific temperature for the portion to be bent of the glass, followed by bending.
CONSTITUTION: The heater wire 3 is placed at a given interval (approx. 1W30mm) away from the glass sheet 1 along the bending line 2 of a desired curve shape of the glass plate 1, and then supported by the skirt 5 provided in the face of the surface of the glass sheet 1 of the heat-resistant part 4 having a shape matching the bending line of a desired curve form. Then, the heater wire 3 is electrically energized to heat the portion 2 to be bent of the glass sheet 1 up to a temperature above the softening point of the glass sheet 1 and then the glass sheet 1 is bent into a desired shape along the bending line 2 by an adequate method, e.g., press molding, etc. The heating wire 3 of a ribbon shape is optimum because of its excellent heating and heat radiating efficiencies. Thus, the glass sheet, etc., for automobile, etc., can be formed into a desired bent shape.
